Saturday 12th January

Although the day started well, it ended up being a dreadful day. After my Tamil tuition in the morning, I set out in high spirits for my cricket training in VS. The sun’s heat was unbearable. Its heat rays pierced my back. Beads of my sweat rolled down my back as we practiced on the field for two whole hours. After a refreshing drink of water we were allowed to play a game of football. However the game of football ended up in a tragedy.

As Sudarshan was about to cross the ball, he slipped and fell on the turf with a sickening crunch. He fell on his hand and his hand was in an awkward position. He had fractured his bone for sure. He was screaming in pain. We rushed to his aid and tried to help him to stand up. We assisted him to the General Office; I was annoyed that the football game had ended abruptly because of a mere accident. But I had a great pang of sympathy for my friend. My feelings were contradicting my thoughts. Brushing my disappointment aside, I decided to help Sudarshan to the hospital. Throughout our journey every scream emitted from his lips was heartache for me.

His fibula was fractured. One part of the bone was protruding out. It was a horrifying sight. He was sent for an X-Ray. His bone had to be pulled back and the whole bone had to be aligned again. On hearing that he would not be able to represent Victoria School in the Nationals Cricket Competition; he was overcome with sadness and grief. I cheered him up. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to leave before the operation. I consoled him and wished him a speedy recovery. All in all I was a friend in deed helping a friend in need.
