Saturday 19th January

Today was a day when my hard work throughout last year was to be rewarded. I have been waiting and anticipating for this day to arrive. I would be receiving an edusave award for being the top 10% in Victoria School. I had received a letter from the district office to inform me that I was being invited to the Edusave Awards Presentation to receive my scholarship. I was exhilarated to have achieved such a prestigious award.
After my Tamil tuition in the morning, I hurriedly gobbled up my lunch and set off to the venue of my prize presentation. I spotted many people from different schools arriving to get their presentation awards. As I was in Secondary 1 last year, I had to wait for a long time before my name was called. I was quite fidgety in my seat but I had a VS friend next to me who was also receiving a prize. We chatted to while the time away. After what might have seemed as an eternity, my friend and I queued at the side of the stage to wait our turns. Before my name was called, I was knock-kneed.
I was receiving my prize from the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi. I thought my name was called out rather loud. I timidly ran up the stairs onto the stage and walked briskly towards him. I shook his hand and he congratulated me and presented me edusave award. I returned back to my place and opened my folder and took out the cheque. A $500 cheque was written in my name. I stared at the cheque in wonder. I could buy many things with a $500 cheque. My hard work and effort last year had truly paid off and I hope that I can clinch the top 5% in the next year.
